Class 4/9
In class we spent time discussing maxims of the cooperative principle in small groups. That was pretty easy, and fun. We also discussed/defined different speech acts and then shared our thoughts with the large group. We played a game at the end that was pretty fun. Dr. Smidt showed us different speech acts and we had to identify whether they were representatives, commissives, directives, declarations, expressives, or verdictives. I got a few wrong because I was trying to beat Kurt at typing and didn't think about it long enough! :) He was really good at the game. It was useful to guess though, and Dr. Smidt's explanations were really helpful for my understanding.
