Today we examined a Bible passage, comparing the Old English, Middle English, Early Modern English, and Modern English versions. It was interesting, but for me it was difficult to deeply analyze the texts. The ending inflection thing would probably not have occurred to me if Dr. Smidt hadn't brought it up, even though I have studies inflectional languages. A list of "clues" might have helped with that activity, just as conversation starters. We did make some observations about the differences in words, and Stephanie (I think) noticed word order changes between the different versions. I still can't believe that Old English is actually considered to be the same language as Modern English!
Then we talked again about the analysis project. I feel like I have a better idea of what to do, but I am still nervous about my speech sample. I've transcribed most of it, but it feels like it's taking forever. Hopefully as I start to analyze it, it will be enough! If not, I'll be in trouble at the end....

Hi Car, I had a hard time analyzing the different age version of the Scripture too. I couldn't contribute many ideas while discussing.
