Class 2/26

Today we discussed  English morphology and went though our latest assignment in small groups.  My group (2) focused specifically on the first part of 2-12 a, 2-12 b #4, and 2-14.

In the first section (2-12 a), we realized that "this" and "that" are both pronouns as well as determiners.  Additionally, "that" is also a preposition.  Not everyone had given all those answers the first time.  I myself had only listed "this" as a pronoun and "that" as a preposition (I think).

For 2-12 b #4, we discussed why "to do" was probably the most likely auxiliary verb to come next on the high frequency word list.  Not everyone had that answer to begin with, but as we discussed it, we all came to agree that it was probably the most likely.  And as it turned out, we were right!  :)  Thanks, Dr. Smidt!

As did some others, our group questioned whether 2-14 was too easy.  It just seemed so obvious, and we are accustomed to difficult questions!  But since we all had the exact same answer, we concluded that it was probably okay.  Luckily, this was also confirmed by our helpful professor.

We shared our results with the large group and listened to some other groups' discussion points.  Then Dr. Smidt explained the quiz items and that was it!  Hopefully it won't be too confusing.  :)
