I am looking forward to "translating" more words from IPA to English - that's my favorite aspect of phonetics! I like the second language feel of working with that alphabet. The vowel symbols are hard for me to keep straight, though. :)

Class 1/29/09
So this week in class we went through different kinds of sounds and how we can teach them in an ESL or EFL setting. I feel bad that my microphone was cutting out when I spoke for my group! I'll try logging on from a desktop computer next time. Or maybe I won't have to be the spokesperson again. ;) It seemed like all the groups had a good understanding of the different kinds of phonemes when they presented the information.

ReplyDeleteHi Carly, please don't feel bad of cutting in and out. It happens. And please don't loss the zeal for being a spokesperson...=D We're learning from a trial now, so we will find a best way to communicate online as the time goes. I'm working 67 symbols on my APP now. (American English: 24 consonants + 12 simple vowels and Mandarin Chinese: 21 consonants + 10 simple vowels).
ReplyDeleteHi Carly, it is an interesting activity to translate words from IPA to English, and sometimes can be very challenging too if I don't know the vocabulary itself.
